A Naked BJFU
I don’t know why I write this article, but when I type down this title, there are lots of thoughts lingering in my mind. So I just say what I want to say, tell the truth that maybe everyone knows, and, the most important, tear up the mask of my school, show you what BJFU really is.
(As a prose, maybe you can call it a criticism, this article may not have a clue, when something occurs to me, I will write it down. So don’t argue the order with me.)
Let’s talk about our refectory first. I think no one will say any praise for the taste of the food they served, and maybe only the millionaires will have no complain about the price. I don’t know how our school deals with the management of the refectory, even if they sell it out, they shouldn’t sell it to a profiteer! We can suffer the unpalatable taste, but we can’t afford the unreasonable price. 15th March of this year, the Customers’ right Protection Day (my own translation, may not correct), some of the students called on a strike to the refectory, they called upon us not to take dinner at the refectory for just one day, but few responded. To me and the advocators, what a heartache! This event refers to the essential of the students, which I’ll talk about later. Every department of the school should put the benefit of student primacy, also does the refectory. Moreover, our health has a significant affiliation with the refectory, of which shouldn’t be thought little.
The students’ goodness tolerant the monopoly of the refectory, but they are insatiable! Not only the quality and price of the food, but also the service of the waiter made us indignant! We pay a high price, but we can’t get enough food. We are still in the period of continuous growing, the lack of food may cause unexpectable result. Can the staff bear the sin? They can’t! Nobody can! Let me borrow an unapt word, we are the nation’s flower, hope of the people, what we need is just an acceptable meal.
I must chatter too much about our stomach. Now let’s aim our dormitory, fire!
We’ve already moved to the new dormitory, so just ignore the congested, old buildings. The new dormitory naturally has its inherent advantages, roomy, convenient, fitmental etc. But what we complain about is also the service and management. Why the management of our school is so inefficient and disordered!
For instance, thanks to the heat of summer, they promised to install the fan (why they didn’t think of this during the constructing of the dormitory?). Let’s see how they install the fan. Bored the holes in the wall, about a week, which dirtied our rooms; disposed the wire, another week; linked the wire and fan, nearly a week. Ok, they finished, the fans became ornaments, and I don’t know there will be how many weeks before the fans begin to run. This is the manager’s efficiency! What a quip~!
Once the managers forbade the girls to studying in the aisle, even confiscated the tables left in the aisle. If they dare to do this in the boys’ aisle, the testy boys may beat them to death.
The service of the elevator also irritated us. Provided that the lift attendants are not females, some of us may offend them.
There are still lots of shades in the management of our dormitory, but more moans can’t bring us more settlements, and I’m tired to expose them, everyone knows.
Oh, I nearly forgot our dear Network Center, so let’s talk about it incidentally. They modified the agreement we made together, limited our network stream to only 3 GB! (Sorry, I really don’t know the exact word to describe this, hope you can understand me) As a colleger, we need to find lots of useful information on the Internet, can the pathetic 3 GB satisfies us? Once we made a great excess, they ruthlessly cut off our network connections. What an outrageous restrict! They made this limitation without our agreement. They said the network wares were overloaded, they had to do so, why they didn’t update the wares but restrict our freedom online! Bitch! I can’t help using the nasty word to disdain them!
In fact, the truths I say above can be tolerated, they are the physical matters surround us that only can effect our mood of studying and living. But what I am about to say can determine our future, that is the major job that a school has to make the greatest effort to do well, that is the affair of education.
I don’t think my school has done a good job. Take the common course English as an example, or it may be the most exact example we can take. It’s funny that the subject of the composition on this term’s final test is let us say something about the English Teaching of our school. I think there must be much more criticisms than praises. Everybody believes that we were able to pass the CET-4 when we entered the university, why someone turned into disability after two years studying? The managers claimed that they had made the greatest effort to make our English better, but no achievement carried out. Something of the English Teaching must be improper, possibly the ability of teacher, or the way of teaching.
The managers of teaching apparently want to level up all the students’ grade, but they should acknowledge that everybody is different. They forced the teachers to balance the rhythm of teaching, which results the best feel boring, they are unfillable, and the worst can’t catch up the speed, so they both become truant. The common students left thereupon become halfhearted during the class. How can this situation leads to a high ratio of passing the CET？I think the best resolvent is executing the classified teaching, which was promised before we began the campus. Everybody can get the appropriate guidance, good become better, inferior become superior. Then no one will worry about how to pass the CET, their only concern is how to get an excellent grade.
But according to the current, it’s useless to pray the managers to change the teaching method in the near future. So if you want to study English well, just work hard, find the way of studying that fit yourself, no one can help you pass the CET, you are your savior. I recommend you Hero, the song by Mariah Carey, which can inspire you, encourage you, strengthen you, and you will find that a hero lies in you.
As in the college of Landscape Architecture, I don’t know much about the specialized courses’ teaching of the other colleges, but I don’t approve of my college’s arrangement of the specialized courses. Not all of us have learnt painting before, so they set various painting courses almost during the whole four years. But that’s not enough, more time should be allocated. They made us overfree when we were fresher; and when we became sophomore, we weren’t busy enough neither on the pretext of CET; so we have to face the awesome schedule when we come into the age of junior. If they’ve arranged the course logically, we wouldn’t suffer this unreasonable schedule. We could be more skilled on painting, more creative on designing, more practical on planning; also we could recognize more plant, even establish a larger vocabulary.
Some of the students who study tourism management even complain that they don’t know what they’ve gained after four years study, it’s our college’s sorriness. We have already lost the status of the best college of Landscape Architecture for many years. We have the best tradition, best teachers, even the best students, why can’t we be the best college? The managers can’t deny their breach of duty.
All the things I said above are the criticisms to my university, these disadvantages are all simply due to the managers themselves. Among these, only the education level is related
to whether BJFU is a good school that the high school students want to go to. But is the education level the only gap between BJFU and Tsinghua or PKU? Absolutely inadequate! I think another major factor is the essential of the students.
Let’s see the strike to the refectory I mentioned above again. This kind of strike can be easily carried out in PKU, even CAU. I think in the junior college or the school even worse, behavior like this can take place too, maybe just a little cruder. But in BJFU, it is just impossible! Why? The students dare not! Some of them even don’t have the courage to have the idea. If the students of BJFU are a little better, they can do this; if they are a little worse, they can do this too. But they are not, they are middlebrow, maybe they are good at Confucianism, but the students of Confucius are much more erudite than them, they are in such an embarrassment, like chicken’s rib.
I know it is not so appropriate to use the word good and bad to describe students, but the whole society conceive this concept, they consider the good students are the ones who obey all the byelaws constituted by the school including the shackles, the students who disobey or are doubtful about the byelaws are the bads. I’m glad to see that some insightful citizens begin to realize the concept was wrong, many students also notice that not all the byelaws are reasonable, they begin to fight against the unreasonable to protect their right. But I can’t see this character in most students of BJFU.
If a student fails an exam, it’s not serious; if a student can’t pass the CET-4, it’s no need to worry; if a student doesn’t study at all, it’s just all right, he must be doing something he take for meaningful. These kinds of students can be found in every university, this can not determine a school’s grade. Tsinghua and PKU are the best two universities in china, there are many students like this in them, and can you say the two school schools are not excellent? But, if the students are docile, not enthusiastic; if they haven’t a creative mind, haven’t the strength to break the obstinate tradition; if they haven’t realized that we are in an era of innovation, many new rules are there for us to establish, they shouldn’t follow the decrepitude’s step; if they absolutely don’t understand what I am crying for……the school and the students are dead, not physically, but mentally. I think lots of BJFU students just lack a spirit, an enterprising spirit, they are apathetic. Even if they are content with current style, they don’t have the sentiment of looking up to the cerulean sky and enjoying the wonderful life.
A few days ago, the girl’s dormitory began to enjoy an all-day electricity supply. This is because many girls signed jointly in a sheet to request the all-night power, and the school agreed. So you can see only we can strive to obtain our own right, and the managers are afraid of us, they fear us to be united. If we can stand together, the school belongs to us, not the managers. The school is not the managers’ monetary machine. No pain, no gains. No strike, no right! Hope this bud of strike would bloom everywhere, and all the students would stand up to be great fighters.
Maybe I should stop here, I have said too much against my school. But my writing purpose is not to debase BJFU, I just want it to be the perfect school in our mind. There must be some other flaws I haven’t noticed, we need to cure them together…..
